Establishment of Egypt Lighthouses
In an effort to spread the Word of Christ further throughout the Middle East and North Africa, in 2018 Horizons International established two new lighthouses in Egypt. Since their founding, the centers have been in constant progress in their ministries. Many people are coming every month to the centers from Muslim backgrounds, and Horizons staff are sharing the Gospel through evangelistic messages as well as humanitarian aid. Two of our lighthouses have been more successful than the third because the third has been under the supervision of the local mayor. The good thing about this supervision is that it is protected by the mayor, but the negative side is that he does not allow the gospel to be preached directly when he is around. The Horizons missions team would like to ask you to be praying for the heart of this mayor to be open to the Gospel.
Engaging Islam Conference
On a recent trip, the Horizons missions team put on a three day Engaging Islam conference. The conference was held specifically for the pastors in the region, in order to teach them how to best share the Gospel with Muslims. The pastors were all blessed and enlightened with the given materials and inspired by the teachings. The conference was successful and at the end of the last day the pastors were given gifts of practical items they were in need of, which many of them said were an answer to their prayers.
Horizons Team Serving in a local Church and the New Lighthouses
The Horizons missions team also spent time serving in a church where they had the honor of meeting the president of the denomination. In addition to the conference and serving in the church they spent time speaking the word of God, singing worship, and distributing aid in the new Horizons lighthouses.
We are beginning to see signs of more openness to the gospel among those who have been coming to the lighthouses, which are in heavily Muslim areas. For example, one of the members of the missions team shared that during one of the services a Muslim lady approached asking for prayer, and this touched the local team greatly. This may seem insignificant, but it was the first time a Muslim background person in this area has approached asking for prayer. Our team prays that this faith in Christ will grow and multiply throughout Egypt.
Our lighthouses in Egypt are in need of more funding to increase our capacity to serve the local community. If you feel called to come alongside the lighthouses in Egypt you can give at the following link: https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E156518&id=61
